The 2025 Ram 1500 REV will be getting an even bigger battery option above the 229-kWh pack revealed on Wednesday, the truck's chief engineer told Road & Track.

"There's something coming later which is different than the [229-kWh model]," Doug Killian, chief engineer for Ram light-duty trucks, told Road & Track at the New York Auto Show when asked about an "XR" model teased by the company promising "Earth-shattering" range capabilities.

Killian confirmed this model will have a larger battery, but did not specify how much larger, nor did he reveal any other specs, like range or power.

The 1500 REV's 229-kWh battery pack is already an industry leader, towering over competitors like the Ford F-150 Lightning's 98-kWh pack and even the gigantic Hummer EV's 212-kWh battery. The Ram's range numbers dwarf those trucks as well, with the 229-kWh battery capable of delivering up to 500 miles of range. Even the smaller 168-kWh battery can deliver a claimed 350 miles of range on a single charge, beating out anything from Ford or Chevy right now.

"Those are the trucks we're talking about [today], and then the XR is yet something different," Killian said.
