Throughout the 1990s, Mercedes offered its W140-generation S-Class and R129 SL with a V12 engine dubbed the M120. In both cars, the engine was powerful enough, but muffled to the point you couldn't hear much of it at all.

At least one person was curious enough to cut the silencers off their S600 to see what the car sounded like with no sound-muffling at all. The results, as you're about to hear, are delightful. It sounds like your favorite '90s-era mid-engine supercar.

Welcome to Better Than Coffee, your daily dose of car sounds designed to help you kick that caffeine habit.
