General Motors confirmed on Monday morning the Cadillac Escalade, the automaker’s premier luxury SUV offering, will be getting a fully electric variant in the near future known as the Cadillac Escalade IQ.
It should come as no surprise that GM is continuing to expand its list of EV offerings to existing and legacy nameplates. The automaker has not been shy about its plans to turn Cadillac into a fully-electric brand by 2030, bolstered by its flexible Ultium battery and motor technology. This electric powertrain system currently underpins a wide range of electric products across all GM brands, including the GMC Hummer EV and Chevrolet Silverado EV, as well as Cadillac models like the Lyriq SUV and Celestiq luxury sedan. In fact, it has been rumored that the electrified Escalade would carry the familiar IQ naming structure found on other Cadillac EVs since the name was first trademarked all the way back in 2021. Think Mercedes-Benz and its EQ naming structure for its EVs. It is also worth noting that the Escalade IQL nameplate was also trademarked at that same time, hinting at a long wheelbase variant coming down the pipeline at some point.
Outside of a single teaser image of the SUVs bespoke badging, GM has yet to share any real information about the upcoming EV. We don’t even really have an idea as to when GM might decide to show the truck off in its entirety. That said, expect some form of reveal to take place before the end of the year following this announcement. If GM’s other large electric SUV is anything to go buy, the Escalade IQ will be every bit as excessive in its approach as the current model.
